D and 25th Streets
Recognizing that both D and 25th Streets were hostile environments for pedestrians, the City of Tacoma wanted to redesign them as Complete Streets. By re-configuring and narrowing vehicle lanes, we freed up space in the right-of-way for new bicycle facilities, wider sidewalks, and bus and new trolley service. Wider sidewalks and large, raised pedestrian crossing areas now create more public space for food vendors, seating, and accommodate crowds during events at the Tacoma Dome. We also worked closely with a local artist to develop a gateway art installation that demarcates entry into Tacoma’s retail and entertainment sector.
