Rachel Ackerman hails from Indiana by way of Chicago where she has experience in both the private sector and the Chicago Park District. She is a graduate of Purdue University where she received a bachelors of science in landscape architecture and a minor degree in art and design.
Rachel’s professional interests include parks and recreation projects and designing fun outdoor learning and play environments for children. She is an NRPA Certified Playground Safety Inspector. She also enjoys designing sustainable communities and educational spaces.
As an active member of a local Toastmaster’s group, Rachel’s other interests include public speaking. One speaking engagement was about sustainable communities and park systems at the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association annual meeting in Chicago. She also participates in the WASLA/University of Washington mentorship program which gives college students an opportunity to learn from an experienced professional in the area.
Currently she is working on Meadowdale Middle School, Valley View Middle School and the Moses Lake Town Hall. She has been involved in the Olympic College Master Plan, Gig Harbor Streetscape Plan, Eatonville Town Center Plan and the Aurora Streetscape Plan.
